Cross//Hatch, an emerging Milwaukee-based percussion group, presents its debut performance in the newly opened Jan Serr Studio at the UWM Kenilworth Square East Campus. The program by composers Paul Lansky, Rodolfo Acosta, and Johann Hasler explores the collision of distinct sonic worlds through an interwoven collection of Arias for resonant metals, Recitatives for found sounds, and Choruses for thundering drums. Drawing inspiration from the visual art technique of crosshatching – shading through the use of intersecting lines – the ensemble explores the deeper shadings, nuances, and expressions made possible through the interweaving of four individual artists to create a collaborative and compelling musical vision.
