Repertory Ballet Ensemble seeks to celebrate the power and dynamic range of the female experience. This concert features a variety of perspectives through classical and contemporary works. The pieces comment on the empowerment of women. Works by Jacqueline Colledge, William “Bill” Evans and UVU department faculty highlight self-discovery and the agency born of feminine expression and community. Audience members of all ages will be able to enjoy the breadth of this concert.

Filament will be premiering original works as well as playing a few other pieces for the percussion duo repertoire.

Cross//Hatch, an emerging Milwaukee-based percussion group, presents its debut performance in the newly opened Jan Serr Studio at the UWM Kenilworth Square East Campus. The program by composers Paul Lansky, Rodolfo Acosta, and Johann Hasler explores the collision of distinct sonic worlds through an interwoven collection of Arias for resonant metals, Recitatives for found sounds, and Choruses for thundering drumsDrawing inspiration from the visual art technique of crosshatching – shading through the use of intersecting lines – the ensemble explores the deeper shadings, nuances, and expressions made possible through the interweaving of four individual artists to create a collaborative and compelling musical vision.

South Florida's leading modern dance company, Dance NOW! Miami, returns to Aventura for the fourth season, bringing their unique style of sinewy, graceful, athletic and engaging contemporary choreography and performance.

 

The evening features the world premiere of their newest work, The Book of Psalms, choreographed by Dance NOW!'s critically acclaimed Artistic Directors Hannah Baumgarten and Diego Salterini. Inspired by the ancient texts of the old testament, Psalms is a contemporary dance journey through the hopes, joys, loyalties, sorrows, doubts and aspirations of the human heart.

Fifth House Ensemble and Jason Vieaux: Living Language

Fifth House Ensemble and Grammy-winning classical guitarist Jason Vieaux team up to create a sonic journey ranging from centuries-old music to modern day works. Dan Visconti’s guitar concerto, Living Language, serves as the centerpiece of the program and showcases a multitude of styles from Medieval plainchant to blues, rock, and Latin dance music. Fifth House and Jason Vieaux use the varied genres on display in Living Language as a jumping off point for a stunning program of chamber and solo works from all around the world, including works by Robert Beaser, Alonso Mudarra, Duke Ellington, Béla Bartòk, and Pat Metheny.
